The Captain has now apologised both privately and in public, and to my surprise it seems a very genuine apology - which I have graciously accepted.
Methinks the good Captain should refrain from PWP for a while . . .

May I register an apology or two - just in case they're needed some time....

He even apologised to me for apologising to me.
I thought it a nice gesture, and was pleased to see it at an end.
The thought of going to sea with some of these people makes me shiver. If they get so stressed and abusive on land, what happens when it gets a bit hectic?

I well remember my trepidation at signing on for the first Chentleman's Cruise but fortunately all my experiences on others' boats have been delightful - so far.

I reckon it has a lot to do with time of year and the lack of getting on the water. I've noticed in the other place that more people are getting nippy and abusive towards each other, some are very easily wound up and posts drift way off track.
Come the spring normal service will be resumed.

There is something about the brevity of e-mail and the lack of body language/ facila expressions/ voice tone etc that comes over terse & apparently aggressive. Alone with a computer we can easily over react. In my limited experience, meeting forumites in real life has been a very positive experience. I understand that several with "dodgy" fora personas are actually great people in real life.
