Is it possible to replace the paddlewheel?
My wheel has lost a magnet and so reads only half-speed when it can be bothered to spin at all. I have a second unit which is dead but the wheel appears sound and so I would like to do a swap.
I have made a half-hearted attempt to push out the paddlewheel axle but without success. Is it just an intereference fit and will a more determined assault work?
I suppose I've got nothing to lose but thought I'd seek advice first.

I would imagine that NASA are going to want their pound of flesh, ie replace the whole sender unit. Mine is a MkI and about as much use as a chocolate tea pot, still the GPS works.

I have experience of 2 makes of paddlewheel log, neither of them NASA. One used a plain piece of thin stainless bar as the spindle; it was an easy push fit in/out. It was possible for it to fall part way out if the log was pushed too far into its fitting. The tube of the fitting was intended to keep the stainless bit in place.
The current log (25 year old Stowe) has 2 grub screw bearings holding the impeller. A bit more sophisticated but also more difficult to dismantle.
So based on my extensive experience, I would guess that if you can't see any slot, cross or hex head then it's probably a push fit.

From memory, I think that it is just a simple spindle which is an interference fit. NASA do a spare wheel and axle kit for £6 so it might be worth buying one to check the components and, as it where, anatomise the patient before operating. Alternatively, although they have a lousy website they do seem to have good old-fashioned customer support (of the brown storeman's coat variety) and would probably be happy to advise you for the cost of a 'phone call - 01438 354033.

It was indeed a

and it appears to work too - at least, when I blow on it.
