Haven't done too many miles yet (surprised?) but did meet the estimable LBB in Loch Melfort yesterday although it was a bit blowy for a long chat.

re the matter of the mayday i mentioned the vessel in question is on stilts at ardfern undergoing keel repairs. i saw the owner. he doesn`t look anything like the photo on the vatersay thread
i must say i was very impressed by the way silkie tracks upwind under her own steam. mine would just go round in circles. gives you a big advantage when singlehanding.

Surely we were too far apart when I finally started sailing for you to form much of an opinion how she was going? Or do you mean that she kept going in a straight line when I was at the mast raising the main?

I hadn't realised before that you were spending the season up here. We must try to meet up again later in the season.

i was referring to the time when you were at the mast raising the main.
i had to drop back cos the " crew " was below making the lunch.
we left kip on 23 june and we`ve been based at ardfern. the first trip was round the mull, rathlin, port ellen, ardbeg and up to ardfern. the second trip took us south again to carsaig and loch sween area. the third trip ( just completed ) went via craighouse, loch tarbert ( jura ), colonsay, the black isles, balvicar, loch melfort and back to ardfern.
the next trip ( starting about 28th august) has not been completely decided but will include gigha for the music festival on 8/9 sept, through crinan on wed 12 sept and the tarbert music festival on 14/15/16 sept.
if you are afloat between 29 aug and 6 sept i`m sure a meeting could be sorted out.

My next weekend afloat was to have been the 8/9th September but I've just dicovered that a "family weekend" (read attendance compulsory) has been organised then in my absence.

Keeping an approximately straight course under engine is one of the few things my tillerpilot can manage though I suppose the long fin keel helps. What kind of a vessel is Danish Blue?

danish blue is actually swedish - a monark 700, designed by peter norlin. somewher around 200 were built between 1979 and 82. i have been told that 7 were imported to the uk, of which at least 5 are still in existence.

unfortunately it looks like our paths will not cross again this season. i`m currently investigating places to winter ashore and would intend taking danish blue back into the clyde towards the end of september.
