BLUEMOMENT

Hello I am thinking of retiring on a Widebeam Canal boat or houseboat. I would really like to moor it somewhere in Scotland. Is that possible? Are there any marinas or canal areas for residential moorage?

I don't have 1st hand experience but I did once think about it. There are some residential moorings and very few marinas. Demand for them is high so get your application in early to Scottish Canals.

The majority of residential moorings are on the Lowland Canals (Glasgow-Falkirk-Edinburgh) there are some on the Caley in Inverness but none on the shorter Crinan Canal though we have had liveaboards staying here. Most, I think, have waiting lists but as suggested you should contact Scottish Canals. Outside of that there are some liveaboards in marinas like East Loch Tarbert and occasionally in Oban Marina in Kerrera, perhaps also in some of the Clyde marinas but because of the limited availability the situation tends to be fluid so no real alternative to contacting the operators directly.
Scottish Canals will be a fraction of the costs of the big marinas.
