6 days lost to it so far.

I’ve been spending more time asleep than the cat and even sleeping is tiring me out.

Hope the worst is over now as I’ve managed eventually to eat something and am even sipping some cask malt medicine - which worryingly seems to taste different.

Anyone tried the flu vaccinations before? I don’t fancy this again.

I recommend having the jab. Had it each year now since it was offered, quite a few years ago. Not suffered since. It's only the weather holding 'boatie' activities at present - meaning prep. for the season.
Get yourself down to the surgery and roll up your sleeve. You probably won't feel a thing, I did not feel any after effects either.

I sympathise Wully, this year's was worst ever, I wasn't sure I'd be spared to see the New Year. I've been jabbed for years and can only say that if it's worse without them it must be truly hellish. Don't plan anything too soon, it lingers...

I am one these 'at risk' people and get the annual flu jab. I have nit had any flue like symptoms for many years but still have man flu, aka common cold,from time to time. Daughter came down with flu last week, 2 nights with fever, 40 Celsius, shaking like leaf, heart racing - very frightening. FIL now has it as well. So, I would recommend it.

I've had the worst winter I can remember. Two separate bouts of flu (fever, cough, diahorrea, congestion and all over aching) and we're not even at the end of February!
I'll be pretty reluctant to have another jag.

Well, what did you expect? This year's strain is Australian. Of course it went for you with a vengeance!

I've been getting the jabs for the last 10 years or so and reckon I've come off a lot better than most though I did go down with something after the Xmas drinkypoos.

Perhaps I should have for the syringe to be held upside down?

Or had the jab in the under-arm?

Or the nether regions?

The jab is a best estimate of the strain that will become dominant in the year that the protection is for. Apparently a person at the WHO uses information to determine which flu is going to be the one. WHO man then tells the suppliers who crank up the vaccine machines and knock out a billion or so jabs. Sometimes another nasty flu comes along and all the effort is wasted. Still, considering that many millions can die of flu in one year, it is worth it.

I sit here typing this with sore knuckles, general ache, gut cramps, wooly head, drooping eyelids and a general ache all over and wondering if I am sickening for something. I will not be at the boat tomorrow and have a long haul flight on Saturday - patient zero I am.

That guy at the WHO, is probably a doctor (of medicine).

I had a flu jag for the first time this winter, since I'm now officially an auld blimey. I was also given a pneumonia jag, which is apparently a one off. No flu so far (fingers firmly crossed).

"Blimey" wasn't my choice of word.

When I got my shingles jag I was advised it cost £200 - not sure that is cost effective for coffin dodgers.

Didn't know you could get a shingles jag. Related to chickenpox or summat isn't it?
