I have been reliably informed that the two marks that showed the shortcut into Tobermory have been replaced. Unfortunately the concrete bases that some of us used as an impromptu tide depth gauge are no more, but that's a small price to pay for the new poles. It's possible that some paint may be added to serve that function.

I have also been told that, although the sides of the channel are decidedly rocky, the bottom is soft sand so if you're early there shouldn't be any harm. If you're late (or the tide is early) it may not be so benign.

I've found Antares charts give a great boost to the bravado level.

I never gave it a second thought with the Centaur (3' draught) but I'll have to pay more attention in Seminole (5' 4" draught).

We usually got there towards high tide, having caught the flood up the Sound of Mull.

Or left through there at about high tide, to catch the ebb down the Sound of Mull.

I've found Antares charts to be great in general !
