well we're 'ere.

Loaded up loads of stuff and started admiring the new mast.

My old shute halyard is now a spi pole topping lift.
The nice bit of new string for a shute halyard comes out of the mast a foot below the forestay, supposed to be for a jib halyards I suspect, and up to a block in front of the forestay.
There are two messengers up the mast that look like one of them comes out above the forestay and would be better for the shute halyard, but they don't come back down the outside of the mast so to use them it looks like a trip up the mast.
The sliders on the main luff are large and round, the groove in the new mast is wide and flat.

No big problems but just niggles to sort out before we head off to have fun.

Do the tails of all the halyards come down inside the mast?

I'm not sure that that would work.

Have you still got a babystay? Does the halyard mentioned above look as though it would be for a storm sail on the babystay?

If the mast is coming back off for the leak, then look at installing the chute halyard inside the mast.

I'm sure that MRS or the chandlery will have slides.

Does your boom have lots of bits of string too?

Yes, the halyards all run in the mast.

The Chute halyard won't work as it is, it'll be changed when the mast comes
down. I may have to buy some rope to replace the messengers so I have options with the spare slots in the mast. I will need more cleats though. We seem to have lost some cleats and I'm sure we weren't over endowed before.

We do have a baby stay but no sails to go on it. I'm fairly sure the line coming out half way up the mast is for a spi pole topping lift. I may feel obliged to get a spi pole as the uppy downy adjustable attachment looks very nice. I might need to get a spinnaker then though.

I would have expected the riggers to supply the correct main sail sliders/slugs (or what ever they are called) to suit the new mast as they did for me, only I had to ask for more since he did not know exactly how many the sail used.
Did you get a new boom? and if so ensure there is some means of attaching the ends of the reefing lines if such a system is used.
Mine were black plastic units which slide along the under boom groove from the aft end once the boom end fitting is removed.
They can be correctly positioned once the main has been hoisted and you know where the reef lines should be secured.
Is it a Selden mast?

It's a Z Spars mast. We have the old boom but the new gooseneck has rams horns which we were lacking before.

I'm not convinced that the chute halyard is right after what has been done to the block at the masthead.

Not seen any sliders yet, I'm told they will turn up.

a man is working on the mast step to make it water tight.

Get it sorted whilst the mast is still down. Ensure that it is clear of the forestay / furling both when stowed and in use.

How did you find out that it was leaking? Rain or doubts and application of a hose.

Just as well you didn't go away and leave her on a mooring. You might have come back after a couple of months to find that the only thing to be seen above the water was the shiny new mast.

PS It's sunny but quite windy here in Spain. I caught a glimpse of the Bassin de Thau off the Golfe du Lion this afternoon but hope to see the Med proper tomorrow, looking outwards unfortunately.
