Just finally lost my temper with Pipex Tech Support on the phone . . . even though I know it is not their fault.

I knew Pipex were doing a restore from a copy taken on the 4th November - three days before the crash - but wasn't too worried because I backed up the database manually just a couple of hours before the site went down on Monday.

No worries then - I can just restore the database before anyone tries to use the site then sees their registration vanish when I restore the MySQL backup.

But they've screwed up the datrabase admin so I can't get into it . . . no idea when it will be fixed . . . 'it's been escalated to the engineers' - who was bloody well dealing with it before then, the tea lady?

PLEASE don't use the site until I have restored it . . . will post on here as soon as this has happened.

The 'Account Suspended' message is something that needs changed in one of the language files, I just haven't got round to it yet. What it means is that the registree hasn;t responded ot the activation e-mail sent by the system. A response is required to activate the account (to make sure you have used a valid e-mail address) - although if there are problems admins can activate an account manually.

I may have to go to the pub for an hour to calm myself . . . but the site will hopefully be restored to its former glory later this evening.

Ah....

Suspect I registered before they had everything running again properly, as I also got a message saying that the e-mail with instructions on how to complete the validation process had failed....... so maybe the SMTP server was still off line, and your registration script couldn't send my e-mail......

regardless, can you activate my account when you've got a few spare minutes?

Thx

Sadly your account will vanish once I restore the backup - but several more currently missing will appear.

I will e-mail you (and everyone else) as soon as things are completely back to normal and you can register again.

Very sorry for the inconvenience but it could have been worse - you could have been me!

went to try to register again a few minutes ago. i have a small yacht for sale ( 1979, 7 mtr, monark 700 - £6k - if anyone is interested ). conditions still say governed by laws of england etc. i`m not too keen to subject myself to the jurisdiction of the english courts

No problem Nick... I, as I am sure all the others do, appreciate your efforts with all these sailing websites!

Finally . . .

SailRoom is back up and functioning normally.

Sorry about the delay - 100% down to Pipex, who have grovelled some but not enough IMHO. The server is now all new hardware . . . but I will still probably move the site to a new VPS hosting platform sometime in the future. (This would be seamless though - you will never know . . .)

Initially there's not going to be a lot of sales or a lot of buyers, because anything like this takes a while. Anyone already registered plus the next 50 to sign up are guaranteed no fees for life, so there's nothing to lose - lets have a go at building this thing.

nick,
sorry to harp on about this. i`m not trying to annoy you but not too clued up on webs etc. so far as i can understand - webcraft runs sailmail; webcraft is ltd co registered in scotland; the terms and conditions regulate relationships between webcraft and site users.
why would webcraft want to have disputes resolved under english law and subject itself to the jurisdiction of the english courts :?

You must be looking at a cached copy of this page . . .

This has been changed. Have a look at

http://www.sailroom.co.uk/terms.php

It should say:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Laws.
These Terms of Service shall be governed by and constructed in accordance with the laws of Scotland and any disputes will be decided only by the Courts of Scotland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are seeing something else please try refreshing your browser. If you are looking at a different page please post the URL.

You are quite correct - Webcraft UK Ltd is a Scottish company registered with Companies House in Edinburgh and operating under Scots law. The text you refer to was part of a default software installation which had slipped through the customisation net. The site is new - there may still be a few rough edges. I am counting on people like you to help me smooth them out, so don't worry . . .

Logged in; Home page(index.php); Categories list on LH side of page shows Coins, Gaming etc; Browse drop-down list shows appropriate categories Sailing Yachts etc; select one and end up at a virtually blank page titled with the corresponding name from the other category list; e.g. Sailing Yachts = Coins where the numbers (1) and (1) are displayed but no links to auctions.

Erm . . .

The very nice people who sold me the auction software have been updating it to the latest version. IN the process they have obviously overwritten some files while I wasn't watching . . . .

I've re-run the Categories generator and it all looks alright from here - please have another wee shottie and tell me if it looks more sensible.

That was quick!!!

And seems to work fine now. I'll have a further play. Thinking of making a bid for something!

What are you thinking of?
