In doing a similar calculations recently, I failed to take account of the other factors. Half a metre would have had me significantly aground!
I suppose I feel that on the W. Coast there is usually no need for this tight a calculation. It's usually easy to anchor with at least a metre under the keel at LW.

However, there are exceptions . . . getting in and out of Soay harbour, for example, or the inner 'yacht berth' on the pier at Colonsay. And in July this year moved from North of the moorings at Eigg to the S. anchorage because my calcs were within half a metre and pressure was very high.

(If there is high pressure I prefer to add an extra metre to my LW calc just to be on the safe side, though the difference due to atmospheric pressure even at 1040mb is only a foot)

I like to anchor where I can see the bottom, it's not hard in the sound of Jura though with 3' range and 3' draught.

I find that the anchor doesn't drag as much if the keels are resting on the sand.

Ah well, we had to go a bit further afield to do that. Not enough range to dry out near Tayvallich.

They sail Sceptre out of Fleetwood; that must be fun with a draft in excess of 3m

Sceptre? Didn't they have a wee argument with Goat Rock (03) off Loch na Mile a couple of years ago with a tidal range of next to bugger all?

Sceptre has been owned by a syndicate for a good number of years now. The original line-up was pretty impressive in terms of experience, however I think a few of the more experienced sailors have moved aside with a resulting increase in 'incidents'
