Maybe I could get some sort of 'drive through' or one with a turntable.

Since the re-engine, the prop has more bite but now the initial stern kick is to port whilst the angled prop shaft means that she will only happily turn her stern to starboard.

I'm glad that someone else is picking the berth cos I'm not sure which I'd want!!

Ok then - could I have one with the finger to port when entering ahead, with the berth to the office side of the main fairway.... ...

..... but then she'll skid wide on the entry.......

It's either continued to be very windy, or they're not in a hurry to get their trailer back! Is my mast round near the boat yet?

Bit difficult to tell one mast from another. Will have a look again tomorrow.

Mistral is now sat in a cradle - no mast. I wonder if they have left the mast round by the launch bay?

Cheers guys. The mast was offloaded from the port side of the truck and put in a single axle trolley just where you see the truck in the photo below, near the launch bay. I did offer too wheel it round myself, but I was told that they would move it.

It's from 1973, gold, with the handle for the original around the boom reefing, the forestay has been removed, the foresail halyard has been chainlinked? down the length of the mast to retain the standing rigging in place, the steaming / deck light is broken. White foresail, yellow main, green spinnaker halyards, blue topping lift. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer - I have the info at home and on my laptop, but I'm in Dublin with my netbook.

I'm not home till the weekend - I fly to Edinburgh tomorrow morning and then drive down to London.

She's also looking very shiny indeed. I'd better get the skipper to start with the Mer This weekend on Carousel. We'd better not let the side down.

Well, I was going to varnish all the doors before the new carpet goes down but if you want to get Carousel polished I will put off the varnishing and go get the Mer off Chiron, it may take all W/E

You're being too polite - I think it was just the rain.

She's had a very rough wash since the photo to get rid of the worst of the dirt and the green.

Now that she's in the public eye, I'll have to improve my standards.

So do you both recommend Mer then? I use Autoglyn which seems to be easily buffed up. I tried the polish from Compass24 but found it hard to buff off if it wasn't really, really clean.

BTW - I think that it's still far too cold to send the skipper outside with his polishing cloths. Much better that he practises his varnishing skills on the house where it's not so important.

Nay lad, I went and bought another bottle of Mer now, that's 3 I have. If them as 'as caravans think it's the dogs dangly bits, and they should know it's all they do is polishing, it's going to be OK for me. If you like Autoglym stick with it.

I think I will varnish this W/E anyway, it's weeks away from launch and I don't want to have to do the polishing twice 'cos the shine wears off.

So are you having 2 new sails? It would be a shame to show the main up if you have a new Genoa on your new roller reefing. How many reefs? Chiron has 3 but I recon if it needs more than 2 I should be tied up so I didn't rig the third.

Yes, she's getting a new main too. The existing is splitting where the batten pockets are stitched on.

Yes, 3 reefs - following Nick's theory / advice, the third reef is very deep to provide a tri-sail size.
Reefs at 3.75' 7.75' and 12.75' on a 25.75' luff.

I hear what you're saying about the third reef, but sometime you might need to get back to be able to tie up.

Would not worry over much with the polishing. From 100 mtrs you can never tell if a boat is polished or not. My theory and sticking with it.

Funny you should mention that - he's getting very keen on practicing his varnishing skills up in the front bedroom aka 'The Bosun's Locker'. Some new shelving from a well known swedish shop has been purchased and mutterings such as 'I can put my PBO's there' and 'The sails can stack there' has been emanating from within.

We are however going to get very careful measurements of bits of wood off Chiron next time so duplicate sets of washboards with more ventilation can be made.
