If I could be bothered to attempt the TOP search engine I'd give you the reference of those previous posts. The strange thing was this claptrap was being taught in the same form in several different schools. The suggestion was that the RYA crib sheets were the source but that was never confirmed.

I think its one of those human nature things.
Its much easier to convince someone of a fantasy than a fact. And once convinced he'll fight anyone to the death to defend his belief

I'd like to hear him explain aerial mismatch and VSWR meters
I'd like an explanation as well, please.
I have a big pointy thing on top of the mast which is connected to the back of the VHF. When I press the button on the speaking-into wotsit, I can speak to people. I wouldn't know a VSWR meter if I fell over one on the pontoon, let alone know what to do with it.
There endeth my complete knowledge of radio electrickery. Do I
really need to know more? Is me edumacation sadly lacking?
All I know is that it works!

I would strongly recommend you leave it well alone.
These things serve no useful purpose other than generating violent arguments on sailing fora. A sort of electronic version of the angels on a pin head debate.
