Re: West Highland Yachting Week

Don't know if I should try and justify my comments in view of other replies. Perhaps would be fairer of me to say that my experiences are first-hand but not all connected with West Highland week.
The prices do rise : Tarbert goes West-End and was in danger of losing it's position as Rover/Tennent/whatever host because of complaints.
The infrastructure is stolen from joe public in order to satisfy the needs of the regatta - Port Ellen during Malts cruise is closed if you don't have "the flag". The frog at dunstaffnage won't serve restaurant meals due to focussing all it's resource on WHW.
Probably there are lots more examples, but since I only get involved by accident, I have managed to avoid them.
Personally I don't mind partying and a bit of noise, I have even been known to contribute, however I do object to being part of a bailly-bridge used by clod-hoppers, having paid the full price for a berth.
In retrospect, I think the Malts bunch are the worst offenders. the places they need to visit just can't cope, but they need the cash.
