I wondered about the relevance of a passarelle in this context until I realised how much rainforest it takes to make one.

Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

well, that certainly scotched nick`s hope of of your third post beingJackJ wrote:Point taken Nick.
I run a Fairline Squadron 52 out of Cowes. She has Med specification with a passarelle and reverse cycle air conditioning so I worry little about the vagaries of warming and cooling climate cycles....leads me to be sceptical towards global warming alarmists.
" useful, entertaining and informative "

it`s been a while since the bm pipe band played - i think you`ve earned a wee tune - specially composed for you -
" the green hills of cowes " ( a retreat in 3/4 time )

Im not sure if a wooden boat is more or less environmentally correct?
My current boat now being renovated has a laid teak deck(which leaks)mahogany hull (11.50m)oak frames & copper fastnings. She was built in the late 50’s.I rather thought i was recycling?
Now for lunch of Fish baked with slices of bacon, tomatoes, sprinkled with basilic & pepper served with runner beans and jacket potatoes. The wine is Italian white (est est est) and very good!!
Most new passarelles dont have any wood in there construction all plastic & metal?

I read an essay which suggested sea algae played a far larger part in the conversion of CO2 than any rain forest etc.sahona wrote:Any teak or mahogany on your boat?
more rainforests needed to convert co2 into o2
The warming of the seas and the slowing of the gulf stream is killing the algae and that is where we should be scared, especially us at the tap end of the gulf stream.
I have a copy of that doc, global dimming I think it was called. Fascinating and I did not sense a socialist propaganda in the program. I will have to watch it again, but seem to remember that it suggested if we stopped flying tomorrow in order to slow global warming the opposite would possibly occur.Alcyone wrote:I saw a horizon programme about this some years back:

It completely and utterly shocked me. As a scientist myself, I could not believe the effect that aircraft were having on the world, and that the temperature rose over a degree in 2 days without them.
I never doubted what we were doing to the Earth, but that drove it home so much more.
I remember wondering to myself, if we could go back in time, pre industrial revolution, pre coal burning... when the door of the capsule opened would we notice the day being brighter?

Some posts removed . . .
I've trimmed the end of this thread up a bit as it was getting pointless - and if you don't like that Donald then sorry but it is my perogative, I never said this was a democracy.
JackJ is obviously a wind-up merchant and I suspect he may even be Jimi. In any event, as far as I am concerned owners of large motor yachts are not part of this site's target audience, have nothing in common with the people this site was created for and are - to put not too fine a point on it - a waste of bandwidth. It is really no more appropriate for JackJ to be posting on here than it would be (for example) for Donald to be posting on a caravan forum with the specific intent of winding people up.
People like JackJ - real or not - are part of the problem, not part of the solution and I am certainly not obliged to give them a platform on a sail cruising website. They will therefore have to expect short shrift if they appear on this board posting annoying drivel specifically created to wind up WAFIS. YBW's Lounge is the place for that, not here.
Simon, thanks for an interesting and relevant post - as our resident weather guru you of all people are qualified to comment on these issues with a little more understanding than most. You must have known you would attract the usual fringe element though.
While it is undoubtedly true that climate change is of enormous relevance to sailors it is not the primary focus of this web site. You may all be interested to know that there is a forum on another one of our websites which exists specifically for the discussion of climate change. Jack, if you really feel strongly about the issue you are very welcome to register for it and argue the truth or otherwise of climate change theory there as much as you want.
