The definitive answer as to the devalue of dosh is how many Mars bars could be bought for £1 at the relevant time I believe.

Yer hard earned is doing hee- haw in the bank so whatever a pound is / was worth is irrelevant - might as well treat yourself while it's worth something.
You can't go sailing in the fresh air on some numbers on a bank statement....
And yer a Lang time deed.
