. . . frequented largely by whining malingering no-good socialist gutterscum as pilloried in a certain section of a certain other forum, and if so should I be worried in the way this reflects on me as a pillock of the sailing community?
2. No (a trolling pillock is a trolling pillock, pilloried or not - why worry about it?)
As soon as I saw the thread in question the whole scenario unfolded itself before me with the force of revealed truth. It's 01.20; Nick hasn't posted much for a few days; He may have had a wee snifter or have been working too hard and seeks a little diversion; A poll on GW in the lizard's lair suggests itself.
I got bored on the first page I'm afraid but have now been back to review and I see you got the expected reaction (in spades) on page two. Interesting to see tcm putting a tentative toe in the water too.
It may have been educational to see the (eventual!) result if you'd put up the poll here instead.
Just read the thread in question, and a few others in that place.
It rather illustrates why I worry about being identified as a "yottie."
You don't get the same problems in the hill walking, running or kayaking worlds.
References to the 3 day week and the 1970s miners' strikes quite took me back. "Not a penny off the pay, not a second on the day". Wonderful. Or was that the 1920s ? Attitudes don't change much.
On the other hand most of the yotties you actually meet seem quite reasonable.
Most sailing people I have met have been pretty decent people imho, regardless of their politics. However there is a stridency from a minority in the Lounge that is reminiscent of the right wing US radio "shock-jock" approach to discourse.
Most people are immune to that, but they do appear to get their slower witted camp followers who repeat the same old dross. C'est la vie.
I've stayed off this thread as I don't really understand it...
you do sound like a load of opinionated cack heads though with too much ime on your hands - shouldn't you be making sure you've enough wood in for the winter?
