I went for a walk today.

Post by aquaplane »

It was too breezy to sail, again, so I went for a walk down the road to look out over towards that gap between Jura and Scarba.

There were several boats moored in a lagoon south of my start point. There was one fine shup in particular that caught my eye. It got me looking at some of the other vessels and thinking, how long is too long for a mooring strop? Some looked to be 1/4 to 1/3 of a boat length. Ours is sort of 45 degrees ish from the bow to the buoy.

I also wondered where mooring holders park their cars as the prohibitions on the notice board didn't leave any options other than don't.

It's a long 4 miles back from the car park at the end of the road to Ardfern, in wellies.

When you aren't so fit.
Seminole.
Cheers Bob.

I don't think there is a too long for mooring strops unless you're going to hit another boat as you swing. I think it's much the same as anchoring in that the longer the scope the less the stress when bouncing up and down.

We probably passed you on the way down to the old Jura ferry pier from where we walked down towards the Dorus. The willaways blasting in from the sound were impressive but the Dorus wasn't for once.

Was that not the Lorne Leader in Loch Graignish the other day?

hum, I felt I was running the risk of finding this thread a bit disappointing, and so it has transpired.

I think i was kinda hoping it would be like the diary of someone living in Dallas in 1963 "I went for a walk today and imagine my surprise when the President swung past and then suddenly...".

See?

Can we have more threads like that, please, anyone? NOT OP= looks like it's going to rain 2= Yes it's raining here already 3 = not here - oops oh yes, it's raining now 4 (two days later) = might stop soon? and so on. Altho I think Claymore managed just such a thread recently. Actually that was more fun than this thread here, and much more interesrting than my example as he playfully engaged with the immediacy of modern (ish) communication and the interminable boredom of rain in Northern Europe, and at the same time he was making a mockery of the entire forum, and possibly of all forums. Hm. Anyway, I've got slightly sidetracked by the rain issue, and Claymore, again, but i think I've made the point adequately, just about.

PS it's okay to lie about what happened on the walk, as far as I'm concerned.

Strangely coincidental as it might appear, I went for a walk last night. It was pitch black and I was very happy with this as I am developing my night vision and generally putting my oculars through a bit of a training scheme to strengthen and tone up the muscles because the price of specs seems to have got ridiculous. Anyway, there was I walking up the lane which we live down when the very strangest thing happened. Suddenly the whole part of the planet that I was occupying lit up. When I say occupying, that wasn't the best way of describing it. The bit I was standing on and as far as my improving eyes could see, lit up. There. Now I thought of diving into a ditch in case it was a flare that had been fired by the Bosche, then realised I wasn't that old and thought it really is time I stopped reading the Commando magazines. It was - yes you've guessed it - the moon. Well, it fairly terrified me, I can tell you. I felt exposed and looked down to check I still was wearing my frock - well, it was night and a dark one at that, I really thought it would be ok. So - without further ado, I spun round, breaking the stilletto into the bargain - and they were a bargain - Oxfam, or was it Sue Ryder? Anyway £3:00 which was a bargain by anyone's standards - and hobbled back down the lane. That is the lane we live down. By now, the serious navigators amongst you will have worked out that I was back on my course for Claymore Towers. Fortunately no-one was abroad on such a night - now there's a funny old turn of phrase - so I made it back without being clocked.

There are elements of the above which are absolutely true, I threw a couple of made up bits in as advised by Matt, who I have to say, always delights me with his erudite posts, as well as all the crappy ones.
