Re: WindGuru?
WindGuru is the best site I know of for round here at least - they consistently give the best predictions. The subscription service is supposed to be even more accurate.

Re: Islands Quiz
Would I be right in assuming they are likely to be all in Scotland?
None of them are Lundy that's a fact

Would that be the same stuff as the British oil and gas off the coast of Great Britain?Yes, but only once the English Oil and Gas that is (inconveniently) positioned off Scotland runs out.

Re: Name that boat
. Looks like a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter - there's a firm building them somewhere doon sooth. Here's Mischief, seen at the Crinan Classic last year and named after Bill Tilman's original. http://www.bluemoment.com/gallery/albums/crinanclassic08/mischeif.jpg http://www.bristolclassicboat.co.uk&qu...

Re: Saltire
Depends where you intend to wear it. Wrapped round your shoulders as our gallant boys suffer yet another fitba defeat should have a fly of ~1.5m; flying from an ensign staff at the stern, about 1"/foot of boat; from the backstay while sailing up the Bristol Channel, I'd go for the biggest you ...

Re: Saltire
Going to ask my wife's aunt to make me a decent Saltire. What size would be ideal for a 30ft? boat and what material should I advice her to buy for it? she is in London so will let her get the material. TIA, C_W At the risk of some Old Salt ire, I would suggest no bigger than a regular small courte...

Re: YM this month.
They have great showers in Sccotland, it's what you get when it's not actually raining. I know, I used to live in the Western Isles :) It would be really nice to sail to some of the remote inlets and bothies I used to walk to eg Usinish on S.Uist, Camasunary on Skye. And Tinkers Hole looks like a m...

Great pics - can't wait to get up there in June, even if it is 400-500 miles from here.
PS I never use marinas, I always anchor. And what's a "shower"

..or swap - Genuine CQR's
I'd like to swap for charts of North West UK and Northern islands, or make an offer...
Genuine cqr's:
25lb has a slightly worn pivot hole but perfectly serviceable
35lb is slightly distorted on rh fluke, but easily blacksmithed
I would be willing to deliver if not too far from Portishead

Charts wanted - west and north Scotland
Any condition, don't need to be too recent, as long as the rocks haven't moved! Weather permitting I may be heading that way soon, and I don't want to rely on the chart plotter exclusively.
And thinking further ahead, charts for Faeroes and Iceland would be pretty cool as well

Lovely pics :) I usually only manage 2-3 weeks off work for my summer trip, but I always manage about 800 miles. Getting out of the Bristol Channel is the first problem, and I aim where the wind takes me - last August was pretty windy and the last beat towards Milford Haven and Ireland turned into a...

A fine looking vessel (and the anchor ball is the bees' knees) but do you have anything in next season's budget for a new main? Yes, it's a bit sad isn't it? Mind you, the home-built slab reefing works a treat - I spent a lot of the trip with 2 reefs in and the sail sets OK then :) ...and I h...
