Re: Scottish Anchorages website

That website was run by Professor Charles Warlow, emeritus professor of medical Neurology, Edinb Univ. He'd be 91 now. He was still about and active late last year and helped me with proof reading of the most recent edition of CCCs Kintyre to Ardnamurchan sailing directions book. You could read abou...

Re: Crinan Canal 2025 Opening / Restrictions

This is a good list. Its a difficult problem for the Canal authority. How to maximise use of the canal, how to find an economic model of operation, how to preserve an old monument in working order. For my Rival 32 (9.7m) its about £153 one way. For that reason and the restrictive hours of operation,...

Re: Fish Farms At Sanda and Skye Proposals

The Mowi moorings at Colonsay, Muck and Rum are pretty good. I note they have also acquired the associated boatyard at Campbeltown that once serviced Sanda also. In what've said so far, there's an intention to reserve access to the north anchorage at sanda, and add moorings there in an appropriate p...

Re: Clyde Estuary - Charge for Leisure Vessels !!!!!!

In wondering why PP might be thinking to change this £120/year they are planning, I took a look at their accounts (last accounts published 31/3/23). Companies House publish accounts lodged by Ltd Companies on line. I'm not an accountant, but some things in company accounts don't take a qualified acc...

Re: Clyde Estuary - Charge for Leisure Vessels !!!!!!

Where did you find this gem?
Sounds like it needs a wider dissemination!

They already think they control all activity on the Clyde including yacht racing..

Re: Scottish Series Robotic Racing Marks

I was a few days on a RIB during SS24, Just troubleshooting where required. Most of that was in unclogging the props on these things from weed. That seemed to be the biggest criticism to make. There was the occasional comms blip, one went awol one day, and another failed to move, but did keep statio...

Re: Price of Safety

My liferaft is coming up to its service date, and I wonder about it... My LJs I do myself, baulking at the cost. I take them all home for the winter, and open each one and visually inspect. Then I inflate using a dinghy pump (so as not to fill them with saliva and cause an "old guy blackout&quo...

Re: The UKHO intends to withdraw from paper chart production by 2026

The meeting wasn't centred around this topic. (more about lighthouses and AtNs. hosted by NLB) But the timescale is quite tight(IMO), 2026 to complete. The info UKHO produces is used by many (such as Imray) to produce paper charts. And yet others also print paper to order, from the source electronic...

Re: The UKHO intends to withdraw from paper chart production by 2026

The Imray series of leisure folios is being extended to cover the same areas as the CCC Sailing Directions, roughly in order of popularity of the SDs. At a recent meeting that included UKHO people, I learned that not only the cessation of the paper charts, but that a whole new grid system for the ne...

Re: new Antares charts for 2020

I had a "run in" in Castlebay, when anchored between the pontoons and ferry terminal. I was in 5m, so the ferry unlikely to run me down, but they complained anyway!

Re: new Antares charts for 2020

I don't see anything either about a 200m limit. I was there recently (last year?) and they were overhauling the pier. I got asked not to tie to the piers boarded up part, so we had to anchor and row ashore. We anchored N of the pier, between it and the rock on N sside. NTM 05/22 (1 Jan 2022) from Ca...

Re: Antifouling recommendation

I've used Flag Cruising grade for about 5 seasons, and Cruiser Uno before that. Can't tell the difference. Flag's stuff is sold by several as branded stuff, like Gaelforce.
The results seem to vary with the waters sailed - for all types.

I won't now be able to get there. Had intended, and would have been arriving from the great (as in big, not necessarily good) country to the south where I'd be Mon, Tues. But now I'm to be there Tues - Wed, and the Doric is a bit far from Bradford! That wee diversion southwards can't be rearranged I...
