Ah, the joys of summer in the UK. At least I get three weeks clear with nothing to do but wait for a suitable window, and if it's too lumpy at sea I can potter about on the Fal.

I wonder if the sun will shine at all this year?

Well, the good news is that the missus is getting much better following her return to Cornwall. We enjoyed our three years in Scotland but returning home was our only option. While I can live just about anywhere (apart from maybe Hull), she needed the support network provided by her family while I w...

Hi, Silkie, sorry if I appear to have taken your post out of context. I'm also sorry that we're unlikely to get to crack the seal on that bottle of Lagavulin, for a little while at least. Lets just see how the next few months pan out. My aim is to do next year's Jester Azores Challenge; I'm using th...

Lost me. As a result of serious illness I've been offline for rather a long time. Additionally, I've moved back down to Cornwall so I can be closer to the family. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some sailing in this year, but in the long-term, I don't think I'll be buying. Hope you all have fair wind...

Read about that - I bet it wasn't quite so amusing at the time!

Currently N60° 45.2' W000° 39.6' East side of the Shetlands.

We're supposed to be drilling about 90 miles east of here, but looking at the forecast for the next week the rig'll be here for a while yet.

Afternoon from a lumpy North Sea. I've managed a couple of days on a Twister out of Falmouth, and while I can agree with you on the point of bijou and compact, Ash, they do sail very well. You can get much more volume on the same length, and as we all know, yachts are a compromise. I hadn't quite re...

I'll have to take a good look at Nick and Kathy's site in the morning - we're about to heave-to off Fetlar for the night while we wait for the weather to abate. Sadly that means loosing the satellite link. Hopefully, I'll be back in the morning, after a night dreaming of distillery visits. Andy

Sorry, Ash, but the link isn't working for me. I've looked at the Vega at http://www.yachtsnet.co.uk/archives/albin-vega/albin-vega-27.htm How do you get around the prop being beyond the rudder, other than through careful planning? I'll see what my employer has lined up for me over the coming months...

Cheers for that, Silkie. I suppose its too early to be looking at when you might be slipping her back into the water?

Thanks for the tip, Ash, the Vega certainly ticks all the boxes.

Thanks for the welcome, Dave. As a result of getting my knees thoroughly trashed at the service of Aunty Betty, I'm getting a small pension each month, plus I'm able to stash away a fair bit from my wages for future ventures. The financial planning is all squared away, part of which was the selectio...

After my time in the Army, my liver's pretty-much pickled. I got a job on the rigs so I get half the year to dry-out.

Did I mention I like Lagavulin?

Hi. Yes, familiar with both, and good reading they make too. Sailed on the Baltic with the Army, and a fair bit down in the West Country, which I found far too crowded for my liking. I don't suppose many hundreds of miles being towed around the North Sea on a drilling rig counts? Looking forward to ...
