BLUEMOMENT BOLTHOLES - an occasional series
Port Donain, Isle of Mull - report by Shard June 2006
Reasonable shelter in winds from SW to NW.
We’ve passed this place often, but never really noticed it before. We stopped here on Saturday just gone. Beautiful, bluebells and wild flowers in profusion, wild goats. Didn't see the chambered cairn mentioned in the OS map.
More or less equidistant from the entrances to Lochs Don and Spelve, it's exposed to the east, but was comfortable in 14-16kts from the south. Expect it would give reasonable shelter in NW to SW winds. The bottom is sand and weed, but there are clear sandy patches which removes any concerns re kelp etc.
