Hello,
Son wants me to take him and friends to Corran on the yacht for Hogmanay. Apparently there is gig in the village hall or something that their Mountaineering Club are having.
I am not keen but might just do it. I am looking for any experience or comments on overnight stops at Corran, North and South of the narrows.
Thanks,
Alastair

We once stopped on the north side, which I think is the most practical spot to be close to the village, for a lunch break. It was straightforward to anchor though there are are a few moorings.
It seemed like it would be OK in settled southerly weather. Definitely not the place to be in any sort of northerly. But there's Sallachan Bay about 3 miles south, which is well sheltered from the north but completely exposed to the south.

The fish farm to the north's rotating feeder squeaks annoyingly. Eddy up the west side on the ebb.

What's the tide doing over Hogmanay? If it were a calm evening/night you might have enough water to lie alongside the pier just to the north of the ferry slip on the west side. Doubt that anyone would bother you. Handy for the pub.

Not quite a Corran solution, though if you needed to bail out for shelter earlier than planned, there's a fine wee anchorage at the NE end of Eilean Balnagowan. Good for most things except North/north East. Been in there twice- going to/ from Corpach and Oban.

But nowhere near a pub... or much else!

Balnagowan is a bit restricted by a mooring in the bay, though still usable I think.

There was a wee motor boat moored close in to the NW side when we were there in late August, it was fairly shallow and didn't swing much so caused no real bother.
