a response to the increased canal prices, with apologies to the engineer on the Vital Spark...
Oh the Mull of Kintyre for me...
I do like the wide open sea,
The canal is too dear
I'll not shed a tear
While saving a pound or three,
By sailing the long way by Sanda,
And giving Isle Rathlin a gander
Macrihanish and Gigha
For me it's no fear
The Mull of Kintyre for me.
The Mull of Kintyre for me,
Its not so terrific just like the Pacific
and closer than Japan or Fiji,
A life on the Spanish Main
Would never drive me insane
The big foaming breakers
Don't spoil my chart papers
The Mull of Kintyre for me.
The Mull of Kintyre for me,
Its certainly big and not wee,
Sometimes it is calm, enough to fry ham
and I do like a nice cup of tea,
You can darn your socks,
While avoiding its rocks.
The Mull of Kintyre for me
The Mull of Kintyre for me,
From robbers and thieves you are free
There's no pricey sale that would make you turn pale
And shiver and shake at the knee
Past Arranmans spinnin'
I'm binnin' the Crinan
The Mull of Kintyre for me

Re: Canal Price increases
For a man with a job, Geoff, you have much too much time on your hands.
I was cogitating on the 16 day explorer licence, a mere £465.60 for my wee (too small for sitting RYA YM exams!) boat. It could represent value for money if I was a lazy sod - northwards Crinan for SIPR, northwards Crinan for Round Mull, southwards Crinan for the Tignabruich pursuit, northwards Crinan again for WHYW, southwards Crinan for end of season, northwards Crinan and hence through the Caley to Port Edgar for winter and then back through the Caley and south through the Crinan for next season. That's 7 x Crinan and 2 x Caley and still a couple of days to spare.
At the new prices that would be approximately £1340 if paid separately. Only problem is I actually enjoy sailing and I really want to get to Orkney some time. I like Rathlin, Islay, Colonsay, Gigha, Craighouse, Sanda and even C'town. But the thought of screwing the incompetent SC out of nearly a grand is almost enough to have me sawing off my nose.
