No, sadly Fairwinds still languishes unvisited in the bay . . . but tonight we have been in the T&T taking beverages with the Shards and meeting with Marisca, both currently resident in Puilladobhran. Is this the best 'local' in the known universe?

I discovered the delights of a dash of water in whisky in that pub. There was some diver chap who lived in a big white house just next to it. We had been drinking all night and he invited us back for a whisky at his place where he insisted that a dash of water would release many more flavours. It was a revelation!

I took a very wealthy family from London to the pub, a lunch time stop, and they ordered up Scotch Pie and Chips. To most folks this is just a pie and chips, but they loved it, placing it on the pedestal of Scottish Experience with Haggis. I honestly never thought that London folk didn't have a clue about Scotland until this family came along. Still, they went away happy having another true Scottish experience.

I reckon the Tigh-an-Truish is great pub. The best? Don't know, it depends on the company of course.

I didn't mean it was the best pub in the world, I meant that I really couldn't hope for a better local.

I've lost count of the forumites and other yachtsmen with interesting tales to tell that I have met in there.

It would be a great local to have, wonderful location. That whole area from Ghia to Oban, but in particular the Crinan / Melfort / Seil area, is my favourite place in the world, no competition, not even when its pouring.

And just back 'a bicyclette' from a truly wonderful evening . . . . the Shards returned to PD this evening with three other boatloads of musicians in tow - squeezebox, electric bass, bazouki, penny whisttle, Charlotte on flute, banjos . . . .

The only thing missing was the Silkmeister, who was on board but incommunicado. There are many wonderful things behind the bar in the T&T, but tonight was a fail. No VHF and no dinghy, so we had to leave the Silken one to his slumbers.

Tomorrorw we are roadying . . . we persuaded the band to leave their instruments in the bar rather than risk death and destruction on Puilladobhran beach. They are playing at the Barn in Lerags Glen tomorrow, and we are tasked to deliver the wherewithal by 15.30 - should be fit to drive by then.

Very very enjoyable indeed. I reckon that the Tigh an Truish really is one the worlds' great pubs (not, of course, that I've ever really had very much to do with pubs). Nick very kindly volunteered to be the roadie, so thanks very much. Unfortunately the Shards couldn't make the Barn session this afternoon, but had a great time at the T an T and at the Creagan Inn on Loch Creran on Friday night.

Big thanks to the real musicians, the skipper and crew of Kieta - John, Ian, Gavin and Kenny. I'll post a weblink to them when I get more bandwidth....
