I acquired another boat yesterday. That makes ... <counts carefully on fingers> ... seven. It's probably a good thing The Boss is abroad, but I'm in big trouble when she gets back.

Nightmare! The most I ever managed was 5 at one time!

I confess that this one is the smallest in the fleet. It's a Bic Sportyak which I'm going to use as a tender for the Hunter 490. Still it is technically a boat, so I am technically in trouble.

Now, can I resist the Enterprise, complete with trailer, which is for sale locally at £160? I think I'd better, unless I want to live in it.

I'll say; not called tender fer nothing! I imagine hersel' turning round to give directions, as is their want, and tipping the thing over ... (I'm just saying that cos' verra nearly the selfsame thing has been narrowly avoided)

Hmm, I wish that Enterprise was a little closer to civilisation - but it would then be a lot dearer I s'pose.

Now let me see, 2x rubber ducks, (plus 2 more with big holes in) a ply sailing tender, a Minisail, a Laser, a Solo, 3x canoes, a Waveski & my Pentland Ketch. So that's 7, ignoring the 4 canoes & 2 wrecked inflatables.

It's like shoes & knickers; you can never have too many boats.


Edit, I just remebered 2 more PBK kayaks with a pal for recovering with canvas.

if you're going to include these then that ups my ownership at one point in time to 8 (1 Beneteau 331, 1 GP14, 1 Laser, 2 Oppies, 1 rubber dinghy, 1 7'3 minimal, 1 6'10 gun).

It's only for use on Loch Ken where I have to get out about 50yds. If and when I start using the 490 on the sea I'll arrange something more substantial, but I think the Sportyak will do just fine for sheltered fresh water. It's also about the only thing a 16' boat can tow. Since I am 6'4" I expect to look thoroughly ridiculous in it, but I'm a professional when it comes to looking thoroughly ridiculous.

If boards are allowed into the count along with canoes and kayaks then we're not so far behind.

But no rubber-flubber....

Very dangerous as a tender, unstable and too light, its like bobsleding trying to keep them on an even keel.
I watched someone tilting the transom right up before he fell in the drink while trying to step off the bow, and on another occasion I watched another person going in the drink due to a stiff breeze tilting the think over in Kip marina.
I was given one but gave it away.
BIC should stick to pens, at least the user will know which end must point down

As I wrote, this is just to ferry me out across a very short distance of sheltered freshwater. If I do fall out then, depending on how Scottish Power is feeling, I'll be somewhere between "well within my depth" and "only just out of it".

I've now had a chance to try the Sportyak. It's pretty easy to row and has carried me plus two small children with ease. Sure, it's not something I'd care to take across to Arran in a blow, but for the short hop out to Duckling's mooring it should do fine.
