The Glenuig Inn in the Sound of Arisaig has installed 10 Visitor Moorings in Glenuig Bay, including 2 for Yachts up to 15 tons and 8 for Yachts up to 10 tons. The entrance to Glenuig Bay is at 56°50’N 05°49’W and the moorings are marked with Yellow Buoys. The text on the Buoys reads 'Glenuig Inn', 'Pay at Bar' & 'Max 10 Tons' or 'Max 15 Tons'.

All are deep water moorings, with some outside and some inside the skerries. There is a slipway that provides easy access for dinghys, kayaks at almost all states of the tide. The slipway is just a short walk from the Inn.

The cost is £10 per 24 hours or part thereof, payable at the Bar in Glenuig Inn, which is fully refundable if you eat there the same day or evening. Glenuig Inn is open all day, every day, serving sea food and Home-cooked meals from 12.00pm to 9.00pm daily, all year round. Bookings are not required, but best to phone ahead for parties of 8 or more.

Nice touch that. Is there still room to anchor for the impecunious that eat on board?

Seems like an entirely reasonable arrangement to me, and better than the offer at, say, Port Appin where apparently you now have to pay for using a buoy even if you eat.

I would have thought there's still room to anchor, the most detailed BA chart available is at 1:50,000 so it's hard to judge from that, but there does seem to be two areas each just under 1 square cable (is that a new unit?) either side of a drying bit with between 2m and 10m. OTOH it was last surveyed between 1857 and 1863...

Glenuig Hotel was the first pub I had a pint in. That was on a kayaking trip in 1969 - the week after the Apollo 11 moon landing.

You're free to express your approval or otherwise as you wish. Where moorings impact on the ability to anchor I feel that the loss of freedom should be balanced by something other than someone's private selfish motive. Glenuig appear to be attempting to attract custom in a welcoming and constructive way. Sanda has managed to give an impression of exclusion and restriction though I am hopeful that the reality will be different.

The issue on Sanda was not the moorings surely, it was the attempt to restrict access to the island itself or make visitors feel unwelcome.

I don't see any connection between the two situations.
