I don't think anyone could disagree with what the world will surely come to know as UGI's first theorum: "Everywhere looks better without a marina.".

However, the man (famous in my house for being Jonnie Ball's almost best mate) opens the door to a small handful of exceptions to prove the rule.

So I'll kick off the thread which I anticipate will be Bluemoment's longest and most loved with my exceptions:

Gunwharf Quay
All of Gosport
Monacco
Gouvia

Did you know that Dewsbury used to have a sailing club - with it's own stretch of water?

Cumbernauld?

Mind you , an artillery barrage would improve Cumbernauld.

I kept Jumblie at Milford Haven marina for the winter before she came north, and I really liked it there. It was cheap and friendly with a much more eclectic/downmarket collection of boats than you get in posh marinas. I might therefore have to claim that converted harbours don't count as marinas for the purposes of my theorem.

PS. Blush. Autographs on request. No paparazzi, please.

I thought Milford Haven was OK, and thats after two visits.
Grimsby fish dock has also been improved by having part of it turned into a marina.
Again an interesting collection of boats, very friendly people and very cheap beer

Ockle,

After the fiasco last year when we failed to order a Saltire in spite of our best efforts, can you give us a source for a Scottish Ensign? This seems like a good time to revive it.

Duncan's had 'em in stock, last time I was in. I bought mine from Mr Flag. The quality was excellent and they turned round the order inside a week.

How can a boat car park improve anywhere - even a hole in a rock like Portavadie?

I can assure you that Grimsby has been improved by the marina . . .

Grimsby was improved by the Luftwaffe.

I think it would be safe to say that Mallaig has been improved with the addition of a new marina.

Coming from Liverpool where the Marina has ruined a perfectly good derelict dock, I disagree with you. I liked Grimsby fish dock before is was turned into a boat park.
