BLUEMOMENT

While composing my post about Ireland in Passages & PLaces, when I reached about the 4th paragraph, the fresh material disappeared off the bottom of the window I was typing in. It was possible to scroll the window down to see what had been typed but as soon as I resumed typing, the visible window was about 2 lines higher up than where typing appeared.

When I pressed preview, I got the meassage
The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.
at the top of the message with the typing box visible but no preview. It submitted OK after making some changes.

It's IE 8.0.76 on a natty new netbook.

I've had the same problem. Once the wee box is full, you are typing 'blind' - maybe Nick is trying to improve our keyboard skills.

Funnily enough, it isn't happening yet with this post, despite the fact that your 'quoted' message is filling the wee box.

The lines are scrolling up, just as you might expect, with the line being typed at the bottom of the box.

Still OK.

BTW, I've learnt through bitter experience to do a control 'C' of the entire post before trying to submit, just in case it goes pear shaped.

Have to admit that it's been very stable for a while now, although it often fails to submit on the first attempt, the text isn't lost and it goes OK on the second attempt.

Another trick with a long post is to write it first in Word / Notepad / OpenOffice and then cut and paste into BM.

Don't you get a scroll bar down the RHS when you are getting a bit long winded?

I got into the habit of copying my words of wisdom/drivel* before I try to post when it's been a while, I have lost the lot and had to type it all again more than once, or as much as I can remember .

* delete as appropriate.

Yes. I was able to use it to see what I had typed but as soon as I types some more, it rolled up again.

Yer but I only put the endlines in to make the box longer, to see if I got a scroll bar, which I did.

How big is yours?

What are 'endlines'? Carriage returns?

So do a few carriage returns to create blank lines, then use the arrow up key to get the typing line further up the box?

I'll try it next time I find the problem.

Edit - Just thought more about it. When typing a long, 'rambling' post, I will just keep on typing without hitting Carriage return. I only tend to use CR when I want to create a new paragraph. Maybe that is what makes the difference in how the software acts.

I get the "invalid - try again thing" quite often, and the second Cr/Lf does work without losing data, but my perception is that it is a timeout rather than volume of text that causes it.
You can tell from the quality of my input that a great amount of deliberation goes into it, can't you...
