Dolly was mentioned on the Sahona Thread.

She played between the 2 boats on the passage from The Cock of Arran to 1/3 of the way to Troon, then stayed with our boat until Holy Isle when we diverted to Lamlash.

Any idea what the tail slapping is all about?
There was a dolphinh ambushing boats at Ardlamont three or four of Saturdays ago.

Don't know. The programme 'Ocean Giants' on BBC1 on Sunday night spoke of whales tail slaps being heard a mile away. Think that it can be a form of communication, can be a sign of playfulness, but can also be a warning to stay away.

We got the feeling that Dolly was showing off. She followed us - we weren't chasing her.

No aggression I don't think. As we passed the buoy at the point it appeared with a splash and played alongside and under the boat for a while then swam off. I spoke to a couple of other people that day who had seen the same thing at the point.

Eric's not going to be pleased about being called Dolly.

Ardlamont was good at beginning of August 2008. There was a troop of performing dolphins there for a few weeks, maybe they have some sort of muster. Don't know what time of year they breed or whatever, but it may be a regular occurance.
