Tall ships on the west coast

Postby Telo » Tue Jul 05, 2011 8:54 am

Article in PBO promises some spectacular sightings. The fleet is presently underway from Waterford to Greenock. Thereafter up the west coast to Lerwick.

They're here!
One in Ayr bay, looks as if it may be anchoring (or maybe its the bobstay spreaderthingy) and another under sail coming up past Ailsa Craig.
Left the camera on the boat - typical!
The jazzband playing in the Ormidale (Brodick) Sunday lunchtime announced their next gig as the tall ships meet in the Drift-Inn, Lamlash, Thursday.
You never know, we might make it if I can find/fix the broken wire in the mast somewhere.
http://trooncruisingclub.org/ 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.
Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

I thought that the Waterford - Greenock leg was to be a race, with the Greenock - Lerwick leg to be a cruise. Did something change?

Well, there could be roller-skating pandas out there for all we know at the moment.
Vis is down to the square root of Scottish Football Association level.

Quite a few of them spotted on ais in the upper Clyde this am.
Hoping to get close to some of them on fri eve/sat.
We were tied up along Johanna Lucretia of Plymouth, at Belfast marina while on our Celtic Crossing two wks ago.
Recognised one of the crew, had met him on Millport pier last august during the Sail and Oar festival, he had rowed from Ireland with other folk.
Sail and Oar festival at Millport again this year.

There were a wheen of them in Lamlash Bay on Wednesday night. It appears Marisca is faster than a Dutch 3 mast with 17 sails set!
