BLUEMOMENT

Several lifetimes ago, the tradition developed that between Christmas and New Year we would depart our home port of Maldon and sail down to Bradwell Marina for the night, the intention being to partake in a pint or two of ale and to enjoy the fine fare at the nearby Green Man without having to inflate tenders and row ashore, we would return to Maldon at some point the following day. The dish of choice at the Green Man would be Dengie Pie the recipe for which was a closely guarded secret.

This tradition lapsed in 1995 when we moved our sailing to the West Coast.

Now we live near our boat once more, I thought it would be rude not to revive the tradition albeit a little further North, I am looking for suggestions for a destination, parameters would be within 6 hrs sailing from Croabh, pontoon or alongside berthing as I don't want to be rowing the dogs ashore in the cold and dark! Preferably within reasonable staggering distance of an establishment providing a log fire, food and drink, this is not absolutely essential but does add atmosphere to the proceedings.

If anyone has the recipe for genuine Denghi Pie, there could be a prize awarded.

We have thought of coming over to Craobh for a run ashore in the Lord of the Isles one of these Winter evenings - is that too short a distance for you? The only other possibility is through Big Doris and up to Ardfern really.

Well Nick , croabh to croabh out through grey dogs and back through corryvreckan is certainly more challenging than the original course however, the Lord has its attractions and if you are of a mind to join the party, if the weather is truly Argyll, I won't even have to leave my berth!

Is this the foundation of a plan perchance, only commitment we have, is to be in Troon on the 29th without boat.

No I forgot the rum so would have been a mutiny to stay overnight. Was a gorgeous day although without the sprayhood the skipper was starting to suffer frostbite of the nose. Thanks Sliced Sausage for a great trip and Hogmanay.
