The beautiful Rebecca hits the rocks.....

Postby Telo » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:17 pm

Those of us out and about at the weekend may have seen the beautiful classic-lined ketch Rebecca, German Frers designed at 42m. We watched her leave Tobermory on Sunday morning as she headed for Ardnamurchan under full sail. Wonderful sight.

Sadly she hit some rocks off Harris with some crew injuries. Brief Herald story at http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home ... d.24526377

We saw them in the Baltic and then later when they were tied up in Stockholm. Very friendly and willing to chat. (The crew were - although I'm sure the owner would have been friendly and willing to chat too. :D)

Quite ironic to hit rocks in Scotland, but not in the Stockholm Archipelago! :)

I followed the beautiful Rebecca into Loch Eport on Tuesday night, they coming from south, me from north. They were doing up to 8 kts through the narrows (was monitoring them on the AIS) which I thought a little excessive even with 3 kts of tide. They were towing a huge rib tender probably bigger than my boat. Heard the coastguard's side of the exchange about the drama on 16 the following day as I was heading for Barra. Bumped into them again in Oban on Sunday as I headed home to Dallens Bay. Surely not much to hit in West Loch Tarbert, although according to the AIS their draft is 4.2 M!
