Oban Bay Safety Improvement starts 22nd Oct

Postby marisca » Fri Oct 19, 2018 5:56 pm

Calmac are reducing their Mull sailings from 12 to 4 times a day starting 22nd Oct. This should reduce conflict with leisure vessels which are mostly ashore anyway so the peace of the good burghers of Oban should not be broken so often with the 5 blasts that ferries seem obliged to give if they see a small boat. There is the small drawback that Mulleachs have to wait until 10.00 in the morning to leave the island and the last ferry leaves Oban at the back of 15.00.

Calmac's published winter timetable has the first sailing from Craignure at 0900 (0800 on Mondays) and the last departure from Oban at 1600 (later at weekends). Has something changed?

The Muileachs would be able to leave earlier and return later if they were willing to travel via Lochaline or Kilchoan ...

Ok, I got the timings wrong but don't forget the 30 mimutes before k.o. requirement. Except Monday, a maximum of 5.5 hours on the mainland is possible if a Muileach wants to sleep in his/her own bed. There are those that might think 5.5 hours of Oban is excessive, I couldn't possibly comment - it certainly isn't enough to get to Glasgow and back.
