I thought today while doing some other maintenance items, that I'd strip the bilge pump and ensure all was well with it.
Two surprising facts came to light.
After having to drill out one of the bolts holding it together and onto the side of the cockpit, it came to light that it had been install incorrectly. The other surprise was how much gunk had accumulated at the entry point.
A stainless hoseclamp (in good condition, waste not want not), two pieces of wood, several bits of plastic, a few screws, and lots of hairy much.
It was a wonder it worked at all, but for sure no unwanted bits would have entered the pump diaphram with that sophistcated filter in place.
It seems to go much better now after reassembly correctly, and having been cleaned.
