I had a Hydrovane on my old boat it was brilliant, and it is British.
Also have a look at this site

One of the things that would help us to help you would be if we knew what boat you have. Size is important, and stern configuration can play a part - very few vanes are suitable for off-centre mounting, for example.

If your boat is under 30ft then the Navik is excellent. Dave is right, though - for bigger boats most people really rate the Hydrovane, and it can also be used as an emergency tiller. The Aries also has a very good reputation, but an only be purchased second hand now (although spares are available).

Have you had a good look through the sites listed on BlueMoment in the Steering section HERE?
