Dare I say, you agreed to pay it?

Try your local boat jumble, or on-line, next time & keep one in the shed.

I know a bloke who makes his own. Buys zinc granules for a model shop, melts them with a blowlamp and pours the lot into a mould. I don't think it's really worth it for him but it is for a buddy with a Steel yacht with 12 anodes.

I needed silicone grease for the upmast electrics. The local chandler is charging £11.45 for a tube of radiospares-made stuff selling at £4.75 online. Good markup eh?
I'm all for keeping the local shop open and available, but not at that differential.
http://trooncruisingclub.org/ 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.
Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

That's the point isn't it? You don't mind paying a premium to have the stuff available when you want it & on the doorstep. You know they have to carry large stocks, with low turn over, so margins need to be reasonable. But even if they were paying the retail price themselves a 200% markup is a step too far.

Are the Chandler's suppliers taking the pee from them too, I wonder?

Another  for ZincSmart from me - great service and seems to be a good quality product. I had the bonus that I just found a couple of sets in the garage that I ordered a couple of years ago - so they are going on before launch tomorrow :D

Thanks for that ! Bit too late for this year. Will bookmark it for future ref. I assume that we are all comparing like for like here?

Are all shaft anodes created equal?

All anodes are not created equal.
MG Duff use Milspec zinc-no idea what else is in them.
I tried to buy Aluminium anodes for a boat kept in brackish water (sea loch) all the chandlery bods looked at me like i was mental- some had clearly never heard of ally anodes. Ordered them from Anodes Direct on line. Pleasant surprise to see they were cheaper than zinc.

£33 for a shaft anode seems a bit steep but I saw stainless anode bolts priced at £30! Each! I bough Zn coated ones still£5 but at least the same material as the anode backing plate.
