OK, no response?

Found a link suggesting remaining mooring is unfit for purpose. Fair enough. I just hope they lifted the ground tackle of the others which were there!
I'm quite happy to anchor, but not among abandoned chains!

Does the Crown Office have influence over mooring clearance once the licence is discontinued?
http://trooncruisingclub.org/ 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.
Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

Not unless there is some suggestion that a crime has been committed.
(The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is Scotland’s prosecution service.)
Perhaps you meant the Crown Estates?

From what I have met on the west coast I think most ground tackle gets abandoned (because it's rusty and worn out and not worth the effort..) If there is a legal requirement to clear it, I suspect there is no effective mechanism to enforce it. What happens to fish/mussel farming sites after moving them I don't know, but there is a huge amount of chain involved below the water.

Crown Estates are about as much use as chocolate teapots. I generally object to paying their charges on the basis that they do nothing for the money and have dubious legal authority to levy the charge anyway as the Crown historically has no estate in Scotland beyond the personal estate of the Monarch.

I have been particularly disenchanted with them over the past year. Where I moor, there are a bunch of unlicenced moorings laid foul of the club moorings. They did have a company (Bidwells) place sticky notices on the offending moorings last summer, but since then, nothing. They are still there and now have bots on them again. We have no chance of getting them to enforce removal of hazardous ground tackle that cannot be seen when they cannot remove visible moorings.

The Crown Estate has a form that a mooring holder should fill in when they stop having a mooring. It includes a declaration that the mooring and ground tackle has been removed. And that's about it. No checking happens so far as I know.

In support of the CE, there are some "Community Marine Officers" who are employed by Bidwells to enforce the rules. But they are part time and there aren't many. They do a bit but I agree they don't take a lot of enforcement action. Keep complaining I suggest; I know the Argyll guy tries hard to keep thinks in order.
