Flying Dutchman aground

Postby mm5aho » Sun Aug 31, 2014 7:10 am

Heard Stornoway warning a boat to stand clear of the Flying Dutchman off Oban, who was on rocks.
We saw this "tall ship" as BBC called her, in Port Ellen. Her handling on arrival in a shallow port with strong tail wind didn't inspire confidence. It's a gaffrig square sail combination on an ancient steel hull.
Geoff.
"Contender" Rival 32: Roseneath this winter, Gourock in summer.

Is The Scrat what the admiralty calls Sgeir Rathaid?

It is indeed. What with Italians on the Corran Ledge and Dutchmen on the Scrat one wonders whether cardinal marks are sufficiently obvious or understood.

Was the Dutchman looking for his cap?
