NEW NAVIGATION SCHOOL LAUNCHES IN EMSWORTH
The Emsworth School of Navigation, Hampshire, specialising in RYA shore based theory courses, recently opened its doors for business. Karen Dorontic, a highly qualified instructor and experienced sailor applies her in-depth knowledge to teach a wide range of courses including Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster, VHF Radio and the new Basic Navigation and Safety course. Restricting classes to a maximum of four students reflects Karen’s determination to offer a personalised service. Flexibility is also a top priority reflected by the choice of bespoke one to one courses, sessions for clubs and corporate groups along with tailor made workshops.
Small class sizes in an airy modern classroom using contemporary teaching aids enables the strong emphasis on student participation, which most schools strive for, to be realised. For boat owners or people who cannot get to the school, own boat and private tuition in the home are also available. Topics covered for new comers include tides, weather, basic navigation, safety, engine checks, mooring and how to anchor. More experienced sailors go on to study advanced navigation, passage planning, pilotage and collision regulations.
Victoria Bassadone who followed an RYA Day Skipper and VHF radio course recently adds-
‘Both courses were very well run in a professional yet relaxed atmosphere. I hadn’t been in a classroom for a while and was a little apprehensive but Karen’s friendly approach immediately put me at ease. She made learning fun and effective. I would happily recommend Emsworth School of Navigation to anyone looking for a shore based course.’
