UNDERWOOD EXPANDS MARINE CONSULTANCY SERVICES
Robert Underwood, a keen yachtsman and internationally recognised authority on catamarans, has established a new consultancy business to complement the role he plays as shareholder and co-founder of Suffolk based Broadblue Catamarans.
While maintaining his shareholding, Underwood who resigned his day-to-day responsibilities as managing director at Broadblue in August, is retained as a consultant to work closely with the team on developing the company's international sales and dealership network. In keeping with his pioneering approach to catamaran design and build, he will remain in the forefront of the new product development.
"I built my first catamaran over 35 years ago at the age of 23, it was a 45 footer which I built single handedly. This led to a lifelong passion for catamaran design and construction," he explained. "I will be putting this to good use, with both Broadblue and my new ventures."
Underwood started his career in the marine industry in 1971 with the mono hull builder Thames Marine, later he teamed up with the Prout brothers to form Prout Catamarans. The extensive experience gained from these ventures was of great benefit when he joined with Mark Elliot to form Broadblue Catamarans, developing an innovative range of blue water cruising catamarans. Broadblue continues to expand under new owners who took control in February 2007.
Underwood's private company, Pulsar Yacht Services, specialises in marine consultancy, project management, surveys of new and used yachts and providing advice to trade and private buyers.
