A FIRST FOR BROADBLUE CATAMARANS- OPTIONAL OSSA POWERLITE PROPULSION SYSTEM
Southampton Boat Show 2007, 14th-23rd September 2007, Marina Berth 094
The stunning Broadblue 415 is the first of several forthcoming new models being introduced into Broadblue's fleet of luxury blue water catamarans, to be offered with an optional OSSA Powerlite® propulsion system. This outstanding diesel electric drive system not only requires less electric horsepower to power a catamaran but is also an extremely quiet, highly cost effective and eco friendly alternative to a diesel engine.
After considerable research, Broadblue Catamarans selected Glacier Bay's OSSA Powerlite propulsion system, a single, integrated unit, which seamlessly encompasses unique diesel powered generator technology with electric propulsion, to launch its next generation of diesel electric catamarans. While other electric motor drives are available, this system offers owners a host of advantages including improved fuel efficiency, reduced noise and vibration, better interior space utilisation, improved integration of on board systems as well as increased life and reliability of the engine and major components. It also eliminates the need for a separate generator for air conditioning, battery charging and cooking.
At the centre of the OSSA Powerlite propulsion system are efficient Propulsion Duty Rated(T) variable speed DC generators, which feed power to a distribution panel. This contains circuit breakers accepting the incoming power and distributing it to the liquid cooled, low speed permanent DC propulsion motors, which can achieve up to 98% efficiency. The OSSA-CAN(T) is the innovative interface between the generator and propulsion motor as well as other major components, which control the motors via signals sent by the joystick.
The OSSA Powerlite propulsion system package is available as an option on the Broadblue 415 featuring a 25KW 250VDV generator driving two 30hp propulsion motors.
