I make little drawings in the log and pilot books when a transit may be useful or anchoring bearing is required.
These diagrams simply highlight a couple of features I believe will be stable - like mountains and all that.
This year has been difficult so far, with the last 5 weeks of low cloud...
Biggest surprise was Moidart, where my smugly added info in the pilot was useless.
What, if anything, do you guys (and gals) use in your drawings? 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.

I've been know to line up a seagull against a cloud, to check movement at anchor.!
"Contender" Rival 32: Roseneath in winter, Mooring off Gourock in summer.

At anchor I just use whatever is available e.g a couple of rocks, fence post and tree, bracken patch with grass patch; that sort of thing. It's highly unlikely that I'll always anchor in exactly the same spot anyway, so previous transits are not likely to be relevant.

With the yacht in astern close range transits are just as good as distant ones when determining if the anchor is dug in. The point is to make sure that they are distinct. After I have anchored I will use similar objects to take bearings on, it works for me.
