Hame 'll dae me

What a trip! :sailing
I've followed every word in the blog and on here :tmi: and have been slightly involved on the shore liason team :aaaarrrrggggghhhh and contributed what I'm sure was some much appreciated input into weather forecasting. :fishing:

Seeing Fairwinds steaming up the Sound of Jura was an emotional experience even although they were the third boat I thought they were.

In fairness to myself, while the first imposter was nothing like a Vega, it was where I expected them to be. Nick's idea of approaching Eilean Mor was obviously from an ocean sailor's perspective since they were coming up the west side of the sound and must have been at least 10 miles south of the island at the time. Furthermore the second "Fairwinds" was another long-distance Vega sporting a windvane and also motorsailing north in the forlorn hope of a decent breeze.

Once I had definitely identified them I started northwards too since they seemed in a bit of a hurry to get ashore and the new Beta is significantly faster than the venerable Yamaha. We had passed Ruadh Sgeir before they drew alongside and we sailed(ish) for a while so we could exchange toasts in gin and lager. Then it was full steam ahead again.

I was thoroughly choked up as I followed Fairwinds into Balvicar Bay in company with Grace Darling. I gave them a finishing gun with my foghorn but thought it should have been five blasts. Maybe you had to be there.

An inspiring achievement by any reckoning. Respect. (No appropriate emoticon.)

Anyway..

Do you fancy a sail next weekend shipmates? :stillraining ...
