Weather School Musing...Funnel cloud/tornado video

Postby weatherman » Mon May 09, 2011 10:05 pm

Hi again,

Thought you might like to see a video I shot this evening of a funnel cloud attempting to turn into a tornado during a thunderstorm, here in Wombourne.

It's at

The storm was developing overhead and had already produced some spectacular mamatus cloud, hanging below cumulonimbus.

It certainly was an awesone site, and one which showed well the dynamics of the ascending and descending warm and cold air.

My wife had to put up with me grabbing the car keys and running out of the house to go 'chasing'. But unfortunately, the feature became shrouded in rain and so could not be followed :(

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

(Isn't it amazing the clarity of the footage you can get with an iPhone?)

Best wishes,
