For those venturing to the west side of the IoM, you may wish to know that the works on the hydraulic cill and the associated bridge were completed in July. When open, the cill has a minimum clearance of about 2.5m. Opening times are approximately 2 hours either side of high water, and there is 24 hour access via the Douglas Harbour Control. Contact Peel or Douglas on Ch 12 or 16. Rafting may be necessary.

We had a very warm welcome from local Peel sailors, and the local Sailing Club could not be friendlier (toilet and shower facilities, 24H access with keycode from the Club).

Good pub grub in several local bars. Moore's smokehouse is worth a visit. Their kippers are vacuum packed for easy storage, and their oak smoked bacon is the finest I've tasted -
