Something puzzled me about a refereeing decision (or lack of one) in the Italy Wales match. A kick into the Welsh 22 in the second half was cleared by a Welsh defender back into the area where a scrum had broken up, where it was handled by another Welsh player. The ball was then knocked forward by an Italian in a taclkle and a scrum was awarded to Wales. Why not a penalty against them for offside?

Was that the one where the ball was judged to have been touched in flight by an Italian player? (An attempted charge-down, I think.) If so, it would have put all the Welsh players on side.

One weekend pleasure was the absence of the whiny Welsh git telling us constantly what the players should have done. STV does have some advantages.

That is no way to speak of the Sainted Jim Telfer - who seems to have been revived of late

Jim Telfer has been called many things but I can't imagine "Welsh" and "whiny" being among them. I wonder how many times they will show that try next Sunday?

The BBC's Scottish one, Nicol, is as bad. Shocked I was when told he can be booked as a comedian or after dinner speaker recounting humorous incidents from his playing days.

Re Jim: I was at school with Colin Telfer who made the team once or twice, if that helps?

My gym teachers at school were Lionel Weston and Louis Dick.

I think Louis Dick and I were at Loughborough at the same time - I was a bit older than him - probably still am...

Dead nice guy. As for Lionel Weston, I know he was at Loughborough but he was a wee bitty arrogant in comparison to Louis.

Don't remember him but just googled him and he's a couple of years older than me so maybe that's why. Must have been there about the time of Gerald Davies. He once ran past me....
