Fred's moving his boats

There were 4 Fred Olsen cruise ships parked off Port Seton yesterday. Down to 2 today. They surely can't have paying customers, can they?

Re: Restart Scottish Sailing Consultation

I am torn. On one side I reckon I can reduce my virus risk to near zero while going to and out single-handed sailing, always provided my understanding of the virus behaviour is correct, and be of no risk to anyone. On the other hand I am inclined towards Claymore's stance that if we all do what Nico...

Dunstaffnage

Please feel a little sorry for these two - afloat with sails furled, ready to go. And all they are doing is collecting weed and gradually getting lower in the water. Link is a live camera so if it's dark outside - tough!

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

I'm heading out to Barra and then north. If I stay at sea for 14 days they might let me ashore in Stornoway.

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

Aye, as long as you use fenders on my newly polished top sides. Geoff's anchor should hold us alright - might be a blimey to lift, though. I'm down to half a bottle of Ardbeg and nothing's open till the morn so you're very welcome.

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

I wouldn't worry about me. I got as far as Bunnahabhain where they're having a virtual ceilidh with excess output from the big white building. Visitors moorings aren't down yet but with one of Geoff's twin pronged efforts I think I may be staying for a day or two.

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

What kind of anchor was Webbie using. It couldn't have been one of Geoff's super holding yins!

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

I was wondering whether the pubs were virtually open on this virtual cruise.

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

I might as well aim for Coirebreachan - a virtual transit is not quite so wind/tide dependent as reality.

Re: Gentleman's Cruise 2020 - Virtual Edition

Spent the night behind Holy Isle and will round the MoK this evening ~18.00 when the tide is good and probably overnight in Ardminish Bay. Gie's a clue where you are heading so I can choose Sound of Islay or Luing tomorrow morning.

Just for Men

May I advise those on the forum whose age is over 65 and whose tonsorial pride is tending towards grey that now is the time to get in stocks of "Just for Men" products so that when the men-in-black inquire of your age they don't fall over laughing when you claim a year of birth as 1956? Pr...

Losing my strength?

I'm suffering terrible withdrawal symptoms from sailing. Normally I and the boat would be working up to a series of events in May. This year the boat is still in its shed, polished and anti-fouled but with a cover waiting for the relaxation that has to come sometime. So I thought I would try and sim...

Re: Taking the Plung

I tend to agree with Claymore (there has to be a first time!) re furling headsails but in my opinion some means of hoisting another headsail is also advisable. Rolled headsailsails, aye, even those with a foam luff, tend to produce a horrible shape as they get smaller. I have a removable forestay fo...
