Now I understand!

Ah! that explains why I got a notification, went to my box and found a message from Ocklepoint dated September.

Thank you for saving me from Mr Glasgowseaschool.

You'll be lucky! One of the big changes since I were a lad is the paucity of boats in Oban Bay during WHW. This year there were empty visitors' moorings off the OSC. Kerrera has them rafted up and I don't know about Dunstaffanage but Oban Bay is empty. On the Tuesday night this year my crew went to ...

Don't fall overboard

Quite a good tip in itself ... but the use of a dinghy bailer in the cockpit rather than the one armed swing off the backstay when nature calls could be safer, specially when single-handed (?).

Fed up with soggy sugar?

Cube sugar stays as coherent cubes on a boat while granulated coalesces into an amorphous mass.

I'd love to know why.

You youngsters! She's Inismara built, as the majority of 8m Cruiser Racers were, by McGruers. In the days when there was a Clyde Week, regattas every Saturday and before Kip was a gravel pit, about 10 of these raced as a class. But then nearly all the Scottish Islands (all 11 of them) were out with ...

I wimped out! A mixture of laziness and the low pressure areas scudding across the north made Plan B more attractive so it was a trip through the Caley. A single-handed meander via Wreck Bay, Sanda, Port Ellen (7 different bottle conditioned local ales still to taste), Craighouse (I anchored, only 2...

Rothesay

Was there at the weekend. Inner harbour has grown a little more concrete and a lot of plastic pipes. The claim was an October finish - aye right! Pontoons were very slippery, no leccy on the single one (but price is discounted). Nice Calmac man came and warned us they were about to move the ferry to...

Re: eastward bound

The BWB guys are great except that they either lie or don't know about the depths available. Both trips I have stuck fast on "the" culvert (1.65m draft) - 1st time they raised the level and 2nd time I used a tree and the anchor winch to haul me over - but the clincher was an 8" drop o...

Eastward Bound

Boat is parked off Gourock at the moment which tends to be untenable in the autumn gales, the insurance company don't like it after September and anyway Port Edgar is just down the road with a 3 months for the price of two and they race right up till Xmas - so I'm now planning my trip. I've been thr...

Having just recently joined this distinguished forum and while perusing the previous posts I suffered a mite of chagrin to find my throw away comments on another forum have had such an unintended effect. As "AWOL" I responded to a post by "aquaplane", in what I intended to...
