Re: To go round the Mull with this forecast?

Bob, Appologies for not reading your post properly, a Westerly Centeur is a fine boat. Last September, while looking for a weather window to round the Mull the other way (Sigma 33), I sat out a gale in Eileen Mor at the mouth of Loch Sween, 2 anchors out and considering a line to the shore (forcast ...

Re: To go round the Mull with this forecast?

You mention that you have not done a lot of sailing in strong winds. A fairly important factor is the fact that this is February, the cold temperatures increase wind chill and also the force of the wind due to the higher density (caused by low temperature). Another factor is the shorter hours of day...

Re: TV aerial and reception

Many thanks for your posts, I was keen on the Nargus, but apparently it has been discontinued. I tried suppliers in Germany and the US also but to no avail. I was recommended a Banten by Boat Electrics at Kip. Force 4 seem to do two varieties, one is a similar low profile shape to the Nargus ( Bante...

Re: TV aerial and reception

Geoff, Many thanks for that. Your light analogy explains directivity well. I would probably only only use the TV when using the boat in the Marina, primarily Croabh. It would not be in use when heeled, since it would be very sad to be watching TV while sailing. The nearest transmitter is Easdale, no...

Re: TV aerial and reception

Many thanks for your responses, I certainly did expect the "why do you want to watch TV when sailing", I agree that creature comforts do detract and can be antisocial. I trust that you do not interweb when sailing :shake: Anyway the Nargus looks like a good option, just need to find a vend...

TV aerial and reception

Hello, I wonder if (shock horror  ) any forumites have any experience of onboard TV aerials and west coast reception (including Croabh marina). I am considering fitting a Glowmex omnidirectional aerial, probably at the masthead, but would prefer the pushpit to save more clutter at the masthead....

Re: 60m 8mm anchor chain

Hello Pinstripe Shepherd, Hope you are not changing for heavier chain due to a bad weather forcast :) I may be looking for about 40 metres of 5/16" chain which I think is the same as 8mm. I could probably offer £50 and could collect tonight, I am away sailing for 2 weeks after that. Not sure if...

Re: Where is it x 2???

Ops, only one answer, should have read the question properly but will have to pass on the second and will climb back into my cave  . Is the other cave in the same vicinity?

Re: Io Va(r)do

Was it a white hulled wooden sloop? I vaguely recall such a boat in Rothesay with a similar name. There must be some connection, could you post a picture - perhaps scanned from your prints.

Re: DRAFT PLAN FOR OFFSHORE WIND - CONSULTATION PERIOD EXTEN

I am more of a fan for tidal turbines since the energy source is more predictable..................if only there were strong tidal currents in the local  :D I bit further than 100m off-shore would ptovide a better route for RTM passages to Gigha.

Re: Memory Map charts and plotting software

I have used Offshoe Navigator from Maptech since about 2002, and have been very happy with it. I recall paying about £95 for each folio of charts and bought 4 so the chart outlay was about £400 for west and north of Scotland. Indeed £40 is an absolute bargain for the whole of UK. I shall probably co...
