Jamming cleat

I am looking for a jamming cleat(with associated blocks) to fit on my backstay adjuster - the sort of thing I am looking for might be used on a small yacht or possibly a dinghy's mainsheet. What I think I need is a double block with jamming cleat and a becket, and a double block to match - to take 6...

Re: John S Hill, Boat Builders

Has anyone experience of 'John S. Hill Boatbuilders' from Fairlie, quality of wood work and reputation. I had him down at the boat and he was obviously knowledgeable and experienced. Just wondering if anyone has seen his work or has experience of him. Thanks, Alastair My brother's boat needed new w...

Spinnaker for sale

I have a symmetrical spinnaker that I no longer need - the label says it was made by Butler Verner of Gosport. The luffs measure 1080 cm and the foot is 645cm. It is in decent condition - as I have taken it out and measured it I see one area with some black marking and will run it through the washin...

Re: Splicing

There is a firm in Kip who have a yacht that you can legally get married aboard - I used to know somebody who got married in Rothesay Bay on it.

Re: Lang Mae Yer Lums Reek and Some 2016 Thoughts

Moody Eclipse 33.... Must be the best small west coast cruiser for a couple. Not that I am in any way biased. ;) You're probably right, but a criterion for us was space for grandchildren etc etc. I like the Eclipse, but, for various reasons, the Moody Eclipse 38 seemed a more suiitable option, but ...

Re: Lang Mae Yer Lums Reek and Some 2016 Thoughts

Not really an age thing for the boat; Shard is over 40 years old but ideal for sailing conditions conditions on the west coast. More of a comfort/age thing for us so we have have been looking at a Vancouver 34P. The attraction is the evenings in the early and late part of the season where we can si...

Re: Selling a MAB in West Scotland.

James Watt Dock brokerage seem to have some lower value boats and may do a decent deal on storage - might be worth a phone call.

Free Dan Buoy

I have a Dan Buoy that I don't need - it consists of a long fibreglass pole with a float attached to it and then a weight at the end. There is a flag on the top. It is tatty - the grp needs some kind of protection - possibly light sanding and some flexible paint? The flag is tatty. The cylindrical w...

Re: Does size really matter?

Bill - I have a spinnaker I want to sell - what luff length are you looking for? I haven't measured the one I've got but it can't be a long way off the size that you need.

Re: Confession Time

Thank you Mr Claymore. I have done it on various other boats - up to 27ft - but a while ago. I don't have a mast support at the back of the cockpit so once the mast foot bolt is in the mast will be resting on the back edge of the hatch. I am of a diminutive stature but my assistant is a lot taller s...
