Re: Jib Sheets

Just a wee update ... I tried a figure of 8 each side of the clew and it worked but didn't look right and I was concerned that the clew had a few inches to slide on the sheet at each tack and might have caused premature wear so I have reverted to a cow hitch as suggested. My jibs are hanked on but a...

Re: Autopilot fix or replace, who to go to?

My brother spent a lot of money with BEE at Kip and must have been satisfied as he went back several times for further work.

Re: Balloch Dodgers

. And - is there anywhere at Kip, Largs, Rhu etc. or elsewhere around Glasgow that ads could profitably be posted? It might be worth contacting Falkirkdan - he could circulate details through Kip Cruising Club. Kip have a noticeboard but I don't know the rules about putting stuff on there but there...

Re: Round Mull

Yes but I'm told that there are 50 shades of grey, one of them must have a hint of green in it? A slight digression, but does anyone on here have the Gaelic? Both liath and glas are grey in Gaelic, but are they the same shade of grey? (I have a mental picture that liath is slate grey and glas is gr...

Re: Bullet bitten, flares gone

Kip took my old flares - for free - as long as I replaced them with something else - so I went with the ODEO as a replacement.

Re: Jib Sheets

If my double figure of eight doesn't work I'll give the cowhitch another try.

Re: Jib Sheets

I have used bowlines - and have had problems, albeit minor, with them catching on various bits of rigging. I have used the cowhitch method and found that by the end of the season the knot was too tight to undo and I had to cut the rope. I'll see how my method works on Wednesday. Thanks all.

Jib Sheets

I have read about many different ways of attaching jib sheets to the jib. On my wee boat I have been using a small snapshackle which was held in the centre of the sheet by some whipping. The whipping has now fallen apart so I am trying a new method. I have run the sheet through the clew and tied a f...

There is much to be said for having an 18 ft boat

On your way to Ardfern you could call in and fettle my luxury yacht which is also 18 ft.

Re: New sails in Scotland

I would suggest Crusader - I have not used them but they get good reviews. I suspect that Saturn and Owen will both cost a fair bit more. I also note something from a quote that they sent me "Don't forget too that we can visit your boat in most UK locations and our Dacron and Hydranet sails are...
